Have you ever wondered when and why start speaking a language?
Even if your goal is just to understand the language so that you can consume content on the internet, speaking your target language once in a while may help you understand better! Why? Among other things, as we speak we will probably forget some words and this makes our brain get frustrated, thus it keeps up looking for the words we’ve forgotten until we come across them as we listen or read in the language and this process makes the word stick to us for much longer, but in order to forget words as we try to express ourselves in a conversation we first need to acquire words, right? So, that’s why I believe we should start speaking a language when we already have a lot of vocabulary, which can take around 6 months.
I’m Brazilian and I’ve been learning English by myself for less than a year. Recently I’ve felt like I needed to start communicating with people, so I decided to start an youtube channel because I don’t like the idea of finding a language partner just to practice a foreign language. I believe that in order to get better at our target language we need to exposure ourselves to meaningful situations where we have to express ourselves, not just force a conversation.
“Getting Used To The Language Series” is a series of videos I’m going to put out frequently so that I can get used to the language and improve my English skills and also because later I want to see my progress in the language. Once I feel great improvements in my ability to get my massage across I will start to make more interesting videos to help you get better as a language learner and I’m also going to put out some high quality contents to help you “master” my native language (Brazilian Portuguese).
