The “La Ciudad de las Ideas 2009 Re-Evolution” Festival witnessed a very exciting event, where great theologists, philosophers and thinkers debated over the eternal conflict between science and religion, reason with faith and Darwin vs The Bible. The opinions and views expressed are strong, we recommend open-mindedness for its enjoyment.

Debaters: Sam Harris, Christopher Hitchens, Daniel Dennett (new atheists) vs. Shmuley Boteach, Dinesh D’Souza, Nassim Taleb (theists), and Robert Wright (neutral).

  1. pfffft when the host is speaking in spanish, this should give you an idea that most of the audience doesn't speak english. this conference took place in puebla, mexico.

  2. See the version in Spanish, there was a lady traslating what they were saying, don't know how much did she changed, but I listen to the Rabbi in spanish and it was pretty close.

Yes, there is such a link. Two even, and they are listed in the description of this video. Unfortunately the audio quality of the original files is quite bad. That was of my reasons to edit it.

  4. Dennett seems like a really nice man, and of course I agree with his views. I just wish he was a better debater / public speaker. Compared to Harris and Hitchens, he's way too bland and undynamic.

  5. That's a profound point. . . I have a very weak background in religion and a strong pre-med background in the sciences, and even I feel conflicted at times. Imagine the inner turmoil of a clergyman who has studied theology to a degree few of us ever will, acquiring a very deep understanding of the history and meaning of all these texts, and coming to the conclusion that it's all a load of crap. Those few unique individuals are in need of a good psychiatrist!

  6. I'm not as familiar with Dennett as I am with Harris or Hitchens, but he raised a fascinating point: How many people only claim that they have faith because they're afraid of the backlash they'll receive if they speak honestly about what they believe, or rather, what they don't believe? Methinks the percentage of people who claim that they are believers would decrease sharply if this social stigma was removed.
