Will robots steal our jobs? – The future of work (1/2) | DW Documentary

Robots and machines could soon replace humans in the workplace as artificial intelligence improves. Imagine having colleagues controlled by computers. Part 2: https://youtu.be/NGUbboTjT18

Society is facing radical changes. Industry 4.0 – the fourth industrial revolution – is the current trend of automation and data exchange in manufacturing technologies. Artificial intelligence is constantly gaining ground.

The digital era and the Internet are not just changing industrial production processes. An increasing number of jobless people are facing stiff competition from intelligent machines. One software company owner in the US even says the machines are better designed to do most jobs than people are. And that isn’t just restricted to the car industry. Workers cost money and employers are out to minimize labor costs.

What will that mean? Soon there could be more intelligent robots and machines than humans and they could soon be replacing people in the workplace. Industry 4.0 poses a great challenge to the world as we know it and millions of people could lose out in the process. Find out more in ‘Robitics – Impacting the Workplace’.

  1. …….I …say "A BIG" yes and the future doesn't look bright…….I'm NOT worried because that WON'T affect me at all and because of this I see "MASS" unemployment and "SEVERE" problems 4 the world…………….

  2. They are not going to produce more with automation. They are in fact going to produce less. Because a huge proportion of human population would be deemed unnecessary and in fact a burden. We will be culled ruthlessly by the super, super rich. The few thousand uber wealthy people, would live a life of comfort, assisted by robots and AI.

  3. of course they will steal our jobs. And UBI experiments have failed, though the studies were never representative. But i think the overthrow will be gradual, not revoutionary, so that society adapts with new ideas.

  4. When unemployment reaches 60% due to smart robots/smart automated neural network systems the debate of Capitalism vs Socialism will be irrelevant. Chaos will ensue unless a way to spread the capital is figured out. I'd prefer a dividend payout from companies that have large wealth/low employment. Instead of a large "tax" distributed by the government, a public ownership with stock shares and dividend payout makes sense to me. As someone who loves capitalism and despises socialism, the robotic/neural net computer future WILL change employment and efficiency of collecting/providing resources completely.

  5. No robot gonna replace me…I'm a professional slacker. ooops, make that retired professional slacker. So keep working, boys & girls…I need your piddly paychecks for gas money.

  6. 100 years ago, workers who felt their livelihood threatened by automation flung their wooden shoes, called sabots, into the machines to stop them. Hence, the word; SABOTAGE!

  7. Humans have learned nothing for thousands of years. We still want to escape work, to be "free" to do whatever we want. We forget God gave us work as a blessing and for a reason: to apply ourselves, to learn skills, and to develop our character. We don't want what God wanted for us. Instead, we want to float in the cloud playing the harp all day, everything. We want to give into our wicked imagination and do every evil under the sun.

  8. Nobody will have any jobs so no money to buy the product the robots make great idea so the elites can cull the population from 9 billion to say 1 billion… introducing 5G

  9. yeah great idea (not) so you know that robots will take over a certain amount of jobs, yet nobody is stopping the AI moving forward or limiting their involvement. How completely stupid is that.Lets shoot the human race in the foot and have millions of unemployed people. You couldn,t make it up

  10. From a historic point of view, industrial revolutions it’s the poor always gets nothing except more labour for little profit and the 1% getting massive profits but if the companies that lay off staff to switch to robots their should be some sort of tax for every person that would have been employed. Say 80% tax for every robot then their can be a sort of welfare system for the citizens of that country, the companies still save money and the people get money automatically if their skills are not being used but everyone would be entitled to it until you hit a certain pay threshold. It’s certainly possible I’m from Australia and people that don’t work get welfare called Newstart they have to look for jobs but they get around $600 per fortnight, we’ve only got 20 million people here and everyone’s is eligible unless they are loaded, then when you retire you get $900 unless you’re rich. We have a thriving economy, free healthcare and a high standard of living while the government puts about a third of the yearly g.d.p on welfare which includes healthcare,Newstart, paying nurses to go to old people’s houses, disability staff etc. so it’s possible that we could live a life like in that Isaac Asimov book where people can pursue art, education, philosophy, sport etc while the robots do all the hard labor. It’s just which country and government you live in. So yeah most countries like the USA will likely suffer hugely from A.I but others will thrive. And who doesn’t wanna see the yanks get pulled down of pedestal! Fuck em their country is a hole yet they think their the best.

  11. This was a pretty good watch, but WAYYY TOO MANY COMMERCIALS!!! I won't watch any more of your channel due to your use of putting in so many of them. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. You may want to stop being so greedy. 2 commercials max.

  12. It will take atleast 100 years to full automation so we don't have to worry. Next generation will have benefits like universal salary.free health care, free food. Their works will become hobbies. The world will have full of explorers and programmers.

  13. Of course robots is going to take our jobs but we deserve profit of the company and each robot per person should get a profit of it , and the Company going to need to understand who is going to buy the product

  14. Give people the opportunity to have a good education and prepare people with skills so that they can create their own wealth and they won't have an interest in anyone else wealth.

  15. AI guy said " it's going to get ugly in 5 – 7 years " In comes Andrew Yang but this is just temporary and they know it , cause after people lose their 50 – 60 K trucking jobs and lose their homes , the 1K will be a band aide on hemorrhaging society . Hell , even lawyers will lose their jobs and I'll tell you one damn thing , I'll NEVER go to a restaurant served by robots .

Better get armed collage boys , it WILL get ugly .
